Deftones & The Mars Volta Join Forces for a Mind-Bending Tour: What to Expect
Two of the most sonically adventurous bands of the last three decades are joining forces for an electrifying tour. Deftones and The Mars Volta, two titans of alternative and progressive rock, are set to embark on a co-headlining tour that kicks off Feb 25 at the Moda Center in Portland. The tour will bring together their devoted fanbases for a night of debauchery and loud music.
Opening Act: Fleshwater
If you're in Austin, then you'll have two chances to catch Fleshwater. The obvious is that they're opening up for Deftones and The Mars Volta. The other chance is earlier in the day at the Marshall @ SXSW showcase at Mowhawk, so you can get a taste of SXSW music hunting. (These are the type of showcases you try to catch so you can brag about seeing them live before they blow up.) Their music can best be described as hypnotic shoegaze textures with gut-punching heaviness; their sound is a perfect opening to Mars Volta and Deftones. Show up early, soak in the atmosphere, and witness a band on the rise before the rest of the world catches on.
A Match Made in Experimental Rock Heaven
Deftones are on tour, and every sad girl has been waiting for this very moment (me, a sad girlie waiting for this moment). With classics like White Pony and Diamond Eyes and their most recent album, Ohms, Deftones is just one of those bands you have to see at least once.
On the other hand, The Mars Volta, led by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, is the hardcore band your girl is always playing. You like it, but you always forget to ask why because you're hypnotized by the smooth sounds. They're finally back on stage following their self-titled 2022 album marks a highly anticipated moment for fans eager to witness their frenetic, unpredictable performances.
What to Expect from the Tour
This tour is not for the faint of heart—not only will we be treated to a stunning show, but we'll also be surrounded by fans who have been hungry for these two to hit the stage.

Kickoff Show & Tour Dates
The first show is set to take place in Portland, OR, setting the stage for a tour that will travel across North America, stopping in Sacramento (their hometown show), Philly, and DC. The last North American stop is Newark, NJ. They'll head to Europe and then play a couple of festivals back in the States later this fall.
Fans who have been waiting for this dream lineup won't want to miss it. Whether you're a longtime Deftones or a Mars Volta fan or who is depressed and horny, this tour is set to be one of the most unforgettable live experiences of the year.
Tickets will likely sell out, so don't spend too much time deciding whether to go.
